Artist - David Hay

Graduated from the School of Drawing and Painting, Edinburgh College of Art in 1970. Tutors included William Gillies, Robin Philipson, John Houston and Elizabeth Blackadder.

Teacher of Art and Design from 1971.

Principal Teacher in Kelso High School from 1978 until retirement in 2008.

Teaching commitments included work as SQA Examiner, Regional Trainer for Art and Design in Scottish Borders schools, Subject Advisor to the General Teaching Council in Scotland and Associate Assessor with HMIE.

Became a Professional Member of Visual Arts Scotland in 2006.

I am a regular exhibitor in RSA, RSW and Visual Arts Scotland exhibitions.

I live and paint in the Borders village of Yetholm and my paintings relate mostly to the local landscape but also travel and places remembered. Sources are environmental, natural or built and often beautiful but sometimes disturbing and threatening.

Atmosphere and the effect of changing light on the mood of my subjects are of great interest to me.

I use a water based underpainting then work and rework the painting with glazes of colour until the image becomes established.

The collection of work on show reflects my love of The Borders countryside from the Berwickshire coast to the hills and valleys surrounding my home in Yetholm
