Artist - Sue Hailstone

Sue Hailstone is a gifted glass artist; she has learned to trust her instincts and is an introspective designer whose passionate love of the natural world inspires each glass jewel. She has a natural flair for design and was deeply moved when a stranger commented upon seeing her glass jewels, that she “should take great pleasure in bringing such beauty into the world.”

Sue often begins a project by picturing herself in a specific place and letting the elements of that landscape inspire her.

From humble sketches, a collection starts with one of her extraordinary Statement Pieces that encapsulate the essence of the collection. From there Sue will explore the tones and textures of the design further and design and make beautiful, complementary pieces to form the complete collection.

Having spent many years in Cornwall, an area of outstanding natural beauty that has inspired artists throughout the ages and being the progeny of an artistic family, it was only a matter of time before Sue found an outlet for her creativity. Sue designs and makes her unique jewellery from glass and precious metals like gold, silver and platinum. Each one is individually designed and each piece totally individual.

She works from a home based studio and can often be found in her workshop outside of traditional working hours. Inspiration can strike at any moment and to be able to work when the mood strikes is crucial in capturing the spirit of a new jewel. All of Hailstone’s work is crafted to a very high standard using only the finest quality mounting – great care is taken to ensure that they are durable, practical and comfortable to wear, as well as being visually stunning.

Sue’s work has been exhibited in many countries throughout the world.
