I live with my family in the Netherlands and have been working as a ceremicist for several years now. Since September 2017 I am working as a full-time artist. I have spent the last 25 years working with selfhardening clays in manufacturing. About 12 years ago I came in contact with “ real” ceramics as an artform and I was hooked! I finally found the material in which I could express my artistic feelings.
I am largely self-taught by reading books and just by experimenting diferent techniques.
In 2008 I enrolled in a three year ceramic course. I am still learning by following all kind of classes and workshops to improve my skills. During that time I have learned to throw on the wheel as well. My main interest however is in making sculptures.
I love to make realistic art , often with a smile. Sometimes I add materials like rusty iron. I use all kind of clay, from earthenware or stoneware. In my work I often use slips I have made myself using oxides or pigments. I make my own glazes.
In the last few years I sell my work on ceramic- and artmarkets in the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. I exhibit my work in galleries and also work on commissions.
I am so pleased and excited that The Velvet Easel Gallery has given me the opportunity to exhibit my work in this beautiful town of Edinburgh. I am just hoping that the people of Scotland will appreciate the work I make!
