Frances Clark

Using clay as my primary modelling medium, I explore my interest in both the human condition and our visceral connection to the landscape. Recently I have come to realise that my visceral response is triggered predominantly in the British Isles which has led me to explore the concept of ancestral memory. My investigations focus mainly on figurative sculpture, exploring our relationship with ourselves, others and the environment. The headdresses on my recent figurative work are inspire by a small slate and stone arch by Zak Fraser-McNeil at Caol Ruadh Sculpture Park, Colintraive. I’ve lived almost all my life in North Ayrshire and studied at GSA as a mature student. Currently I have a Craft Town studio in West Kilbride, visitors are always welcome.
