Janet has been painting for over 20 years and the main body of her work is semi-abstract, mainly expressed in her paintings of Scottish Dancers
Janet’s artistic style describes the shapes made by the body in action and encourages the eye to move around the painting. Her work has explored the challenge of capturing movement in an image and she has developed a unique way od depicting this.
Using acrylic paints, oil pastels, ink and oil paint allows the variation in textures needed to represent the individual look of the tartan and the exuberant movement of the dancing. Depth is created using colour overlaying and flat brushes.
By identifying and capturing the familiar characteristics of body movement in a particular activity such as dancing, golf and rugby, Janet brings the image to life. Her aim is to invoke a sense of pride and nostalgia in the old traditional dances that we Scots have all been taught in school, and have taken part in at special events.
Originally from Lanarkshire, Janet now lives in East Lothian and works from a studio in her home.
