Claire Gillie-Thompson has been producing expressive pieces of art for over 20 years. Originally from Ross-Shire in the Highlands Claire moved to Edinburgh & is a graduate in drawing & painting from ECA.
Claire’s early work was evoked by memories of growing up next to the Cromarty Firth.
After a very successful degree show Claire won the RSA Sir Robin Philipson award (2001) & The Royal Bank of Scotland purchase prize. Claire exhibited in galleries around Britain, but then took some time away from Art. The business of creating Art was overwhelming for Claire, & as a fresh graduate her confidence held her back.
After years away from painting Claire had a new lease of life after having her son, Lewis, & started Painting in earnest again.
More recent work has explored the relationship of colour & focuses mainly on portraits, flowers & scenes from the woodlands near her, produced in an abstract manner.
