Originally hailing from Strathaven in South Lanarkshire, Victoria is a three times graduate of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and now lives in Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire.
Her work focuses primarily on the human figure, with the understanding that it is the most expressive vehicle in which to represent the human condition, but she also ventures into painting other subjects, as well as engaging in performance drawing pieces.
Victoria is interested in creating artworks that serve to embody her deeper interests of anatomy, Eastern philosophy, and movement practices and has continually tried to capture the crux of each within her multi-disciplinary practice.
Choosing to focus mainly on trying to capture the gesture or essence of given moments, Victoria’s recent work has been creating pieces using oil paint with cold wax, which allows her to build up many layers of semi-transparent paint and scrape back sections to reveal the underlying colour, drawing marks, or sometimes even the bare canvas, whilst encapsulating the overall fragility and transience of the subject.
