Michelle Lowe

Michelle makes a range of fun functional slipware pottery including tableware and ovenware. She throws her work on a pottery wheel in red earthenware clay. It is decorated using traditional slip trailing and sgraffito techniques. The slip (liquid clay coloured with oxides) is trailed or brushed onto the pots and fine detail is sometimes added by scratching through to the red clay using a needle. Once the clay is dry it is then biscuit fired to 1000 degrees centigrade, glazed with a transparent or translucent glaze and then refired to 1130 degrees. She enjoys decorating her pots to make them fun and lively and loves it when her work makes people smile! The frogs which appear on lots of her work were inspired by her first damp cold workshop which she shared with lots of frogs! She now has a small but warm and dry workshop at her home in Portobello.

The images shown are examples of Michelle’s work, please contact us for information on current stock availability.
